Things Are Looking Up

June 10, 2010 Noon-time

First off, happy birthday to Miss Sara Prendergast, who turns 20 today! Woot woot!

Anyway, things are starting to look up. My stomach has settled down so now I might actually be able to enjoy everything around me. I was also able to skype Chelsey back in WB! :)

Last night, Rebecca cooked dinner. We had pasta, chicken, tomatoes, and goat cheese.

The sunset was also gorgeous last night. I went up top and got a picture of the sunset. Unfortunately, the sun sets over our university so there are buildings in the way. This weekend we are going to Troodos, Paphos, and Limassol at a beachside hotel. I'm going to try to get some sweet sunrise and sunset photographs.

Last night a group of nine of us went downtown to a local art gallery. It was actually more of a performance though. There were negatives of photographs on the ground and around a trellis. Then a woman wearing all black stood in the center and used a needle and thread and strung the photos on the trellis. She then stood in the middle and reached for the strings and ripped down the photographs. We talked to the artist after the show and she told us that all the negatives are political figures that have, at one time, affected Cyprus. The way we took it, and we think we are correct, is that she represented the Cypriot and pulling down the negatives with the string shows the struggle between the local Cypriot and higher powers. Overall it was very interesting show, and there is a different artist next week that we plan to go to. It was also nice because it was not very tourist-y. We then walked around a bit and actually ended up in a location that we knew! It's great that we are starting to learn our way around!

Also, yesterday the taxi driver gave me his son's number. He said that he doesn't like his son's girlfriend and wants me to call him. The entire taxi ride was so hilarious and the girls with me, and I, were laughing. It was great! I don't actually know if I will give him a call, but it was still great! The driver goes "You are pretty girl. I don't like Alex's (his son) girlfriend. He's your age, 21. He is a good boy, does not smoke. He is in a rock band. Here, I give you his number and you call him up. He is a nice boy" It was something along those lines - so funny.

Class this morning was awesome too. The information we covered I had already covered at UMaine, but it was a good refresher. It also made me feel good that I remember some information from Dr. Stokes' and Chuck's classes. Woot woot go UMaine! It's lunch time now so I'm going to have some leftover pasta!
